This week I’ve been working on a different kind of project: helping my boyfriend with the game he’s creating for the Godot Wild Jam. This month’s theme is black hole, so we’re working on a game about kitties who go on an interstellar adventure. Cosmic hilarity ensues!
My role has mainly been helping to come up with story ideas and creating artwork. So far, I’ve come up with two pixel art designs for the two main characters, Fredward and his companion who goes by the working name of Voidboi. Here’s Fredward!

As you can see, this is one of my first forays into pixel art, but it was a lot of fun, and I’m happy with how cute Fredward turned out. Also, animation is really hard! But it was super satisfying to see everything put together in the game. I love watching this lil chunky boy run!
The deadline for the Godot Wild Jam is coming up this weekend (this Sunday at 12:00 AM exactly), and we have plenty of work to do. I’ve been listening to my boyfriend curse about algorithms all morning, so I think it’s going well. I wish I could help, but I’m not the technical brains of this operation. I’m just here to draw some obese cats.
Working on a project in a different field than I’m used to is so refreshing. After just doing this little doodle, I’ve realized I should be devoting more of my time to art. I used to draw a lot, and not only is it fun and relaxing (well, sometimes frustrating), it really gets creativity flowing and helps me flesh out story ideas and things like that. I’m thinking I might start doing a character series of the major players in my current work in progress.
